Thank you for your interest in Harvard College. We appreciate you reaching out, and we encourage you to review the detailed information available on our website. It contains comprehensive guidance about financial aid and our application process. If you have questions about the admissions process (including SAT and Duolingo questions), please click on the following link to information – Harvard College Admissions. Below please find answers to commonly asked questions.Parental Participation in the Financial Aid Process:
We expect all biological or adoptive parents, or legal guardians, to participate in the financial aid process to the extent they are able. Decisions are based on a family’s ability – not willingness – to pay.If your family situation requires special consideration, please complete the Parent Information Sheet, available here: Harvard College Financial Aid Forms, and upload this to IDOC. This is especially important if a parent is unable to participate. Please include:
- Third-party letters (from school counselors, religious leaders, coaches, etc.)
- A personal statement from the student explaining the family situation
- Relevant legal documentation (e.g., court orders), if applicable
Additional forms that may be helpful or required can be found at: Harvard College Financial Aid Forms. Reviewing these forms can help you determine which may apply to your circumstances.
Financial Aid Eligibility:
All financial aid at Harvard College is awarded to admitted students based on financial need. Academic and athletic achievements are only considered in the admissions decision, not for scholarship eligibility. International students are eligible for the same financial aid as domestic students.Determining Financial Need:
We assess your expected family contribution based on factors such as income, assets, family size, and number of children in college. Financial need is the difference between the cost of attendance and your expected contribution.More than half of our students receive need-based aid, and we are committed to ensuring all admitted students can attend, regardless of financial circumstances. Please visit the “What Does Harvard Cost?” section of our website for more information.
Application Instructions and Deadlines:
You can find complete instructions for the financial aid application and all relevant deadlines on our website at Harvard College Financial Aid. Please note, we cannot accept attachments or documents by email, so we ask that you follow the application instructions provided. If you experience issues with the CSS Profile or uploading documents via IDOC, please contact the College Board directly through their “Contact Us” page: College Board Contact Us. Options include phone support, live chat, or submitting a request.
For FAFSA-related difficulties, please visit the U.S. Department of Education’s support page here: Student Aid Contact Us
Deadlines:
Our financial aid deadlines are flexible. Late applications will not have an impact on your eligibility or award amount. However, if aid is a significant factor in your decision to enroll, we recommend submitting your materials by the suggested deadlines to ensure timely processing.Receipt of Materials:
Due to the high volume of submissions, we are unable to confirm receipt of financial aid materials until after admissions decisions are made. If you are admitted and anything is missing or further clarification is needed, we will contact you directly via email or phone.Fee Waivers:
- Admissions Application Fee Waivers: Please visit (Admissions Fee Waivers) for information on how to request a fee waiver.
- CSS Profile Fee Waivers: U.S. citizens or permanent residents may be automatically evaluated for a fee waiver by the College Board when submitting the CSS Profile. For details, please refer to the College Board’s website: CSS Fee Waivers
- International Students: If the CSS Profile fee is prohibitive or if you live in a country where the College Board cannot process payments, you can apply through our alternate application process at Harvard College Financial Aid Alternate Application.
Translation of Financial Aid Documents:
We require English translations for all financial aid documents. These translations can be done by you and do not need to be provided by an official translator. We only ask that the translation be clear, accurate, and legible.
